Belmopan, Belize (WBWTN) – Belize Journalist Ryan Budna Spent Weekend in Police Custody.
Well known freelance journalist Ryan Budna was not doing his usual reporting over the weekend. Instead, he was behind bars.
Many people were wondering why there had been no new posts on his social media since Thursday. It turns out that Budna was detained by police in Orange Walk on Thursday night and later taken to Belmopan.
He was charged by the Belize Police Department’s Cyber Crime Unit for using a computer to spread false information. Budna spent the weekend in custody at the Belmopan Police Station.
Authorities have not yet shared full details about the case, but the charge relates to the online spread of false statements.
