INDEPENDENCE, Belize – A devastating accident claimed the lives of two siblings tonight along the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway, between miles 51 and 52. The victims have been identified as 21 year old Sidney Montenegro and her 20 year old brother, David Montenegro.
The tragic crash has left a deep void in the Independence community, where the siblings were well known and loved. Sidney was an active football player and a key member of the Sagitun Girlz team. Just last month, she celebrated a major victory with her teammates, helping secure the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) championship title. Her younger brother David had just graduated from Independence High School on Friday, a day before the tragic incident.
The Football Federation of Belize expressed condolences on social media, honoring Sidney for her contributions to the sport and acknowledging the strong bond she shared with her brother.
The Montenegro siblings were originally from Costa Rica but had made Belize their home. Their sudden passing has shaken family, friends, teammates, and the wider football community.
