Punta Gorda, Belize – Police in southern Belize are investigating a late-night shooting in Punta Gorda that left a local man wounded and sent to hospital.
Danny Martinez, 48, was shot in the left shoulder outside his home on West Street around 11:49pm on Wednesday, 18 June. According to investigators, Mr Martinez had stepped outside his residence, near the corner of West and Queen Street, when he saw a man standing near his gate.
That man, allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene on a bicycle in the direction of the town’s sports complex.
Martinez collapsed after being struck. He was taken to Punta Gorda Hospital by a friend, before being transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital for further treatment.
Police say Martinez was receiving medical care in the days following the attack, though his present condition has not been disclosed.
Authorities have not confirmed a motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
