Man Found Unresponsive on Placencia Beach Dies Despite CPR Attempts

Placencia Village, Belize (WBWTN) – A man was pronounced dead on Tuesday, May 13, afternoon after being found unresponsive in shallow waters off the beach in Placencia Village.

Authorities received a call around 11:45 a.m. reporting that a male individual was lying motionless on the beach near a popular local café. Police arrived on the scene to find a bystander performing CPR on the man.

The individual was later identified as Alec Marton Alvarez, 30 year old from Seine Bight Village. Information indicates that he had gone fishing earlier that morning. Shortly after, he was discovered face down in the sea in about three feet of water. After being removed from the sea, efforts were made to resuscitate him while waiting for help to arrive.

Alvarez was transported to the Placencia Polyclinic, where he was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m. by medical staff.

Authorities confirmed that no signs of violence were observed on the body. However, white foam was seen coming from the mouth and nose. The body was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital Morgue, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Authorities are continuing to gather information to better understand what occurred.
