Dangriga Town, Belize (WBWTN) -A fire broke out Early Friday morning, June 6 around 4:00am on Plum Street, just behind the Dangriga Police Station, destroying an abandoned wooden house and damaging a nearby clinic.
The fire completely consumed the wooden structure, which stood about five feet off the ground. It also began to spread to a smaller zinc building next to it, identified as Arana’s Clinic.
No one was seriously hurt during the incident. The abandoned house was being used by a man, who was present at the time. According to him, he had been smoking a cigarette but was unsure if that was what started the fire. He appeared to be in good health when first responders met him outside.
Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control. According to reports the clinic sustained damage estimated at around $38,000 for the building and an additional $42,000 for the medicine and equipment inside, totaling about $80,000.
Fire personnel are still investigating to determine the exact cause of the blaze. The value of the destroyed wooden house has not yet been confirmed.
