San Pablo Village, Toledo, Belize (WBWTN) – A 19-year-old farm worker lost his life late Saturday night after drowning in the San Pablo River. The victim, identified as Daniel Bulum of San Pablo Village, was reportedly fishing with friends when the incident occurred.
Daniel had left his home around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, accompanied by his brother and two friends to strike fish along the river. While two of his companions were diving in one area, Daniel walked about 100 yards ahead to fish alone.
After some time, the two friends caught up to him and realized he had not resurfaced. Upon searching underwater, they found Daniel motionless. They pulled his body from the river but were unable to revive him. Family members were alerted around 10:00 p.m., and authorities were subsequently notified.
Police arrived at the scene early Sunday morning and observed the body of the young man lying face up near the riverbank with fish tied around his waist.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning, though foul play is not suspected at this time.
