Belizean Teacher Dies in Golf Cart Accident in San Pedro

San Pedro Town, Belize (WBWTN) — A man lost his life early Monday morning in a golf cart accident on 1st Street in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro Town.

Around 4:19 a.m., San Pedro Police received information about a road traffic accident involving an orange 4-seater rental golf cart , rented from Unique Golf Cart Rental. The driver reportedly crashed into a concrete fence post.

When police and emergency responders from Triple R arrived at the scene, they found a man of dark complexion lying face up on the ground. He was bleeding from the head and unresponsive. Witnesses were seen helping to place him on a stretcher.

Police observed a small dent on the left side of the golf cart’s crash bar and tire marks on the post, indicating impact less than a foot from the structure.

The man was identified as Brian Keith Castillo, 42, a Belizean teacher from Belize City. Emergency personnel rushed him to the San Pedro Polyclinic, but doctors confirmed he had no signs of life at 4:56 a.m. His body showed several head injuries and was later transported to Belize City, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Mr. Castillo was an Education Officer with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST). The Ministry has issued an official statement mourning his loss, noting his years of service as both an educator and officer.

“Mr. Castillo served with dedication and passion, leaving a positive mark on students, coworkers, and the community,” the Ministry said.

Condolences were extended by Minister of Education Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of State Hon. Ramon Cervantes, and the Ministry’s senior team.

Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
