Orange Walk District, Belize — A teenager in Belize has been charged in connection with the non-consensual distribution of intimate images belonging to a young woman, after her mobile phone was reported missing.

Police in the Orange Walk District say the woman, a 20-year-old ,reported the loss of her phone on the 16th of June. She told officers the device had gone missing three days earlier and contained private images, as well as access to her social media accounts.

Later that evening, several explicit photos were sent from her account to contacts on Facebook and Instagram. Authorities say the woman had not shared the images with anyone and believed they were stored only on the missing device.

An investigation led officers to a home in San Pablo Village, where the phone was recovered in the possession of a 14-year-old boy.

The teenager has since been charged with three counts of “Using a Computer System to Publish Images of a Private Area.” Police say the arrest was made on the 18th of June.
