Laguna Village, Toledo, Belize — A primary school principal has been charged with two counts of sexual assault in relation to incidents that allegedly occurred nearly five years ago.
Leroy Coe, 33, was arrested earlier this week following a formal complaint filed last month. Police say the allegations date back to 2020, when Coe was a teacher at Laguna Village Government School in the southern Toledo District. According to authorities, a woman came forward in May alleging that she was assaulted by Coe on two separate occasions while visiting the school.
In the first alleged incident, which reportedly took place in September 2020, Coe is accused of forcibly kissing the woman and touching her inappropriately in a classroom. A second alleged assault occurred in November of the same year, when he is said to have restrained her against a table and sexually assaulted her.
The woman, whose identity is being withheld to protect her privacy, reported the incidents to police in Punta Gorda in May 2025.
Following an investigation, Coe was formally arrested and charged on Monday, June 16. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
