Belize (WBWTN) – Some members of the Belize Police Department is showing support for teachers by posting a special image on their social media status that reads:

“Belize Police Association: Unity is Strength.”

This show of unity comes as teachers across the country take part in a nationwide sickout.

The teachers’ sickout comes after more than 1,500 members of the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) voted no to the government’s proposed 3% salary increase, planned for October 1, 2025. BNTU President Nadia Caliz said the offer does not reflect the true value of teachers’ hard work. She also reminded the public that frozen salary increments are owed to teachers and should not be treated as part of negotiations. Caliz further called out claims of a 14.5% increase as misleading political talk.

“Stay strong, stay united, and always listen to your union,” she told teachers.

Police officers say they understand the teachers’ struggle because they are facing the same financial challenges.

“Whatever the teachers are going through, we are going through too,” one officer said. “The cost of living is high, and we also need a raise to survive.”

By sharing the image, police officers are standing in unity with teachers, showing that both groups deserve better pay and respect for the important work they do every day.
