Belmopan, Belize – The Government of Belize is warning the public to steer clear of online gaming websites that are falsely claiming to be licensed in Belize.
According to an official release issued today by the Ministry of Finance, Investment, Economic Transformation, Civil Aviation, and E-Governance, no online gaming companies are currently licensed to operate from Belize. The Ministry says a moratorium on issuing online gaming licenses is in place and has been for some time meaning no new licenses are being granted and existing claims are not valid.
“Several websites are misleading the public by claiming to have a Belize gaming license or by spreading incorrect information about how gaming licenses work in the country,” the statement reads. “This is not only false, but illegal.”
The government is urging any company making such claims to immediately stop all operations, warning that they are not authorized and could face legal action. Internet users are also being advised to avoid engaging with these sites, as doing so could expose them to scams or other risks.
The Ministry closed by reminding the public that online gaming in Belize is tightly regulated, and any legitimate operator must be licensed by the Gaming Control Board. Until the moratorium is lifted, no company can claim to be legally operating under a Belizean gaming license.
