Orange Walk, Belize – On Tuesday night, June 10, Ryan Budna went live on social media for the first time since being released from prison, addressing his supporters and sharing details of what he claims is ongoing harassment from people in power.
Speaking for nearly an hour, Budna spoke openly about the challenges he says he’s faced for standing up against political corruption and exposing wrongdoing.
“It has been quite tough for your humble servant for standing up against corrupt politicians, standing up against people who do not want to hear the truth,” Budna told viewers. “It’s not the first time I’ve been targeted.”
Budna described an incident where he was physically assaulted by a man, an attack he says was caught on video. After filing a police report and being treated for his injuries, which were classified as harm, Budna said no charges were ever brought against his attacker. According to him, senior police officers told him they were pressured by politicians not to arrest the man involved.
“You know what the police told me? Politicians keep calling, saying don’t arrest that man,” Budna said. “That man beat me publicly on video what more evidence does the police department need?”
Budna criticized certain individuals in government who, he claims, are abusing their power.
“We have men in key positions who actually believe they are God… passing laws to suppress freedom of speech, which is protected by the Constitution of Belize.”
He also questioned why, despite being arrested in Orange Walk, he was quickly transported to Belmopan and detained for several days. Budna described his arrest as resembling a kidnapping, saying he was taken by unmarked, heavily tinted vehicles with masked individuals.
“I was never found in a foul cub, let me make that clear,” Budna said, referring to reports that he was hiding at the time of his arrest. “When they came for me, I ran a little distance, but I was not hiding. They cuffed me backwards and took me straight to Belmopan.”
Despite everything, Budna remains defiant and says he will continue speaking out.
“I will not be intimidated. You got to kill me. God has me here for a plan to open people’s eyes to what’s happening.”
His live video has already been viewed thousands of times, drawing attention not only in Belize but also among supporters abroad.
