CAMALOTE VILLAGE, Belize – Authorities in Belize are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a young man inside his home Friday night in the quiet community of Camalote Village, Cayo District.
Police say 21 year old Travis Darnell Swift was shot multiple times after returning home from a nearby shop. The incident unfolded around 8:15 p.m. in Good Living Ranch of Camalote Village.
When officers arrived at the scene minutes later, Swift was found seated on the floor inside his bedroom, unresponsive, with several gunshot wounds to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene before being transported to the Western Regional Hospital morgue.
Investigators recovered at least 30 spent shell casings and several fragmented slugs from inside the residence, pointing to a barrage of gunfire. It remains unclear how many suspects may have been involved or what the motive behind the attack may have been.
Neighbors reported hearing the rapid burst of gunshots shortly after Swift returned home, but few details have emerged about what may have triggered the deadly ambush.
Police have not yet made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
