Punta Gorda, Belize (WBWTN) — A police officer in Belize is recovering after accidentally shooting himself outside a bar in the southern town of Punta Gorda.
The incident happened shortly after midnight on Sunday outside Las Palmas Bar on Govel Morgan Street.
Authorities say 47 year old Ermo Coy, had been socialising at the venue and was preparing to leave when his licensed 9mm Beretta pistol discharged, striking him in the lower part of his right leg.
Emergency services responded to the scene and transported him for medical care. His injury is not considered life-threatening.
Police say there are no indications of foul play and investigations are ongoing.
