Belize City – A 16-year-old girl was found dead at her home in Belize City in what police are treating as a suspected suicide.
The teen was discovered by her mother on Monday morning at the family’s residence on Antelope Street Extension.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the address at around 9:30 a.m. following a distress call.
Police say the teen was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom. A handwritten note, pen, and mobile phone were found nearby and collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
Her body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead by a doctor.
Police have reported no signs of foul play, and the case remains under investigation.
Authorities have not released the contents of the note and have not provided further details.
The incident has sparked renewed concern about youth mental health in Belize. Advocates say it underscores the growing need for mental health support and awareness among adolescents.
